What are Digital humanities?

Digital humanities are anything that combines digital work of any sort with humanities work of any sort. Digital Humanities interprets the cultural and social impact of new media and information technologies (the fundamental components of the new information age) as well as creates and applies these technologies to answer cultural, social, historical, and philological questions, both those traditionally conceived and those only enabled by new technologies.
This is the best definition of digital humanities, although it's a difficult concept to explain, but this is quite well-explained and easy to understand.

I have selected three examples of a Digital humanities projects to make you understand easily what is this concept:

• The first project that I have selected is a it’s a free, mobile, and open source platform called Mukurtu, that allows people to manage and share digital cultural heritage in culturally relevant and ethically-minded ways. It's a grassroots project aiming to empower communities to manage, share, and exchange their digital heritage. They are committed to maintaining an open, community-driven approach to Mukurtu’s continued development. Their first priority is to help build a platform that fosters relationships of respect and trust. http://mukurtu.org/

• The second project which I have chosen is an interactive scholarly work that allows readers to examine the movement of goods and people in the Roman World through the creation of a historical transportation network model and its publication using interactive maps and information visualization. This is a digital humanities project related to history, and I personally think this one is very interesting. https://digitalhumanities.stanford.edu/projects/orbis

• Finally, the third project that I have selected is a layout analysis method to perform automatic text height estimation, even in the case of very noisy and damaged handwritten manuscripts.   http://digitalhumanities.yale.edu/projects/athena

Post-truth and overdiagnosis in children

Post-truth is an adjective defined as "relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief". I mean, post-truth is the way to define beliefs that people think which aren't proofed at all but because of the fact that everyone says it, everyone believes it and it's thought as a proofed theory or fact.

I can perfectly relate that to my own topic, the overdiagnosis in children. A way to associate this to my topic is talking about the existence or not about TDAH.
Years before, nobody had this disorder, just for the reason that nobody knew from its existence, it wasn't "invented" or "discovered" yet. Since the first psychiatrist came up with that idea, everyone started to comment it and nowadays, it's a common disorder to have, in my opinion, psychologists diagnose this disorder too much and too quickly.

I can also talk about the other hand of this theme, TDAH. More or less 20 years ago, everyone was diagnosed to have this disorder, it was like a craze. Nowadays it's also like a craze, but in reverse, at the moment lots of doctors are refusing the existence of this disease, so more and more people and doctors are starting to refuse it too. Based on lots of statistics, that happens because of the lack of knowledge people has about this disorder, if more people knew what is about, the consequencies and general information about it, more people would have their own opinion about this theme and won't base their thoughts on other people's ones.

So, I actually think it has led to the extreme, when lots of people start to believe something, more and more people believe it too. That's a dangerous fact, and more if the thought they extremely believe is about health, like in this case.
 
In my opinion, it's not true that it doesn't exist, because some people actually have it and it's so evident its existance. However, a big quantity of people that are diagnosed to have it, don't have this disorder, because of the fact that somebody has big difficulties to concentrate, doesn't mean at all that this person has to have TDAH.

There are more examples of post-truth related to overdiagnosis in children: the relationship between obesity and asthma, and lots more. But from my point of view, the existance or not of TDAH is a clear example of post-truth.

I've created a graph with a program called Ngram Viewer. It's a kind of graph based on three key words that you choose, and in the graphic it appears the quantity of the articles or internet information where this words appear. As you can see, I've chosen the words TDA, TDH and overdiagnosis. The most common one, based on the graph, is TDA, and the least common one is overdiagnosis. In my opinion, overdiagnosis should be more common in artcles and on the internet. That's what I am going to achieve creating this blog, and I want you to help me by giving you information about this topic which is probably not very well-known.
